About Shirley Blaier-Stein
Shirley Blaier-Stein is the author of Autism Mom, an attorney, and a special education advocate in Fairfield County CT.
My name is Shirley Blaier-Stein and I’m an autism mom. After my son Dan was diagnosed with autism, I felt alone and isolated, as if cast into a different universe. The autism world was intimidating and scary, and I refused to be part of it. I was desperately longing to return to the life I had before.
Countless encounters with doctors, teachers, and specialists broke my otherwise optimistic spirit. Yet I refused to accept that there is no solution at all! Eventually my search lead me to an autistic spiritual healer – yes, you read that correctly – who helped me understand that parents are the primary healers of their autistic children, by being their channel to the world. I had to clean that channel in order for Dan to be able to connect with us, be a part of our universe.
When I first started to work with Joseph, my autistic spiritual healer, he explained that autism is a language that most people cannot understand. Joseph promised to teach me how to “speak” the right language with Dan.
What I didn’t know at the time was that while I would be doing everything I possibly could in order to heal Dan, he would eventually heal me as well. The new understandings I acquired on my journey ended up changing both of our worlds.
I hope that you will enjoy my story, find inspiration and become empowered.
